Our Practices

Every puppy is raised in our home, experiencing the everyday sounds and activities that form a well-rounded, socialized dog.

We focus on:

  • Socialization with people of all ages, including children

  • Daily interaction with other animals and dogs

  • Exposure to various sounds and tactile experiences

  • Regular adventures and car rides following initial vaccinations

All puppies undergo thorough veterinarian check-ups and are up-to-date on vaccinations. With Embark-tested sires and dams, we ensure the health and genetic clarity of our beloved Schnauzer puppies.

Faith-Based Commitment

Our program is fundamentally driven by our faith, which reinforces our ethics and love for what we do. We seek to build strong, honest relationships with our clients, believing that every adoption is a blessing and part of a bigger plan.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ)

Q:  What makes Lap Happy Schnauzers special?

A:  Our faith-driven commitment to ethical breeding, coupled with the nurturing environment we provide, ensures our puppies are well-prepared for their new homes.

Q:  Are your parent dogs health tested?

A: Yes, each of our parent dogs undergoes comprehensive genetic screening through Embark. We carefully select pairings to promote the health and long-term well-being of their puppies.

Q:  Do you offer a health guarantee or Pet Insurance?

A: Yes, every puppy is backed by a five-year health guarantee against genetic disorders and includes a 30-day free trial of Trupanion pet insurance. Additionally, each puppy receives age-appropriate vaccinations, deworming, and a thorough veterinary examination.

Q:  What happens to a puppy if not adopted by 8-10 weeks of age?

A:  Generally, there is a waitlist, and our puppies are spoken for by birth. If a puppy reaches 8 to 10 weeks without a home, they stay with us, cherished and cared for just like our pets, receiving ongoing training and veterinary care until the right family is found.

Q:  How do you ensure the well-being of your dogs throughout the breeding process?

A: The health and happiness of our dogs are our top priorities. Our breeding program follows ethical practices, providing all our dogs with regular veterinary care, a balanced diet, and plenty of social interaction. Our dogs live in our home and are treated as family members, receiving love and attention daily. We are committed to adhering to high standards to ensure each dog’s well-being and quality of life.

Q:  What is your process for selecting the right puppy for each family?

A:  Our selection process prioritizes matching puppies with the right families based on personality and lifestyle compatibility. We operate on a waitlist system which determines the order of selection. As families approach their turn on the list, we engage in detailed discussions to understand their expectations and preferences. This ensures a harmonious fit, promoting a fulfilling experience for both the puppy and their new family.

Q:  Do you offer support or resources after the puppy goes to their new home?

A:  Yes, we provide ongoing support for our puppy families. We are available to answer questions, offer training tips, and provide guidance on care and health. We believe in building long-term relationships with our adopters and are committed to ensuring a smooth transition for both the puppies and their new families.

Q:  Can you deliver my puppy to me?

A: Yes! Because we understand that distance can be a challenge, we've partnered with a trusted pet transport company, whose owners we know personally, to ensure safe delivery to you.

We love meeting our puppy parents in person, but when we can't, we ensure your puppy will receive VIP treatment, traveling individually with one-on-one care.

Conclusion

At Lap Happy Schnauzers, we prioritize the well-being and comfort of our dogs while preserving the traditional appearance of the Schnauzer. Our ultimate goal is to produce healthy, happy pets that bring a lifetime of joy to their families.

If you are considering adopting a Schnauzer puppy from us and prefer to have your puppy’s ears cropped, you may arrange for this procedure independently with your veterinarian after bringing the puppy home. We wholeheartedly respect the preferences of our adopters and aim to support them in making informed decisions regarding ear cropping after adoption.

Q:  What is your policy on ear cropping and tail docking?

A:  At Lap Happy Schnauzers, we are committed to the well-being of our Miniature Schnauzer puppies. We have their tails docked by our veterinarian at approximately three days old to align with breed standards. However, we choose not to crop ears, as the procedure can be painful for young puppies and offers no health benefits.

History

Historically, tail docking and ear cropping were performed to prevent injuries in working dogs. Miniature Schnauzers, originally used for hunting vermin, benefited from these practices as they minimized the risk of injury during encounters with rodents. The cropped ears and docked tails reduced areas that could be grabbed or harmed. Over time, these procedures became standard to maintain the breed’s characteristic appearance.

Breed Standards

The American Kennel Club (AKC) recognizes both cropped and uncropped ears as acceptable, leaving the choice to the discretion of breeders and owners. Tail docking is a requirement in the breed standard.

Tail docking is typically performed at about three days of age, while ear cropping is usually done between seven and twelve weeks. The AKC notes that tail docking is a simple procedure that causes virtually no discomfort to the puppy.
